You can’t see what’s left But you know that I’m right I’m barely even here I’m still out of sight I’m going to slide through the wall The evening’s not done I’ll rearrange the candlesticks because, baby, I’m the one Baby, I’m The Ghost Oh, girl, can’t you see I’m never more than the most There’s not much to me I’m looking right through you I’ll bet you could say the same Stare into your mirror Try to understand my name Baby, I’m The Ghost The Fastest One Alive Which doesn’t make much sense Since I didn’t survive I’m gonna rattle your dice I’m gonna boil your rice I’m gonna switch off the lights Then turn them back on I’m gonna shudder and moan At the microphone No-one can sleep When I start ringing them bells Now it’s time to start The evening’s events I’m hiding all the good stuff In the teacups with chips Baby, I’m the Ghost From midnight till six Be sure to tell the children That the kids are for tricks

Who’s gonna tell him Who’s gonna tell him when he comes home Who’s gonna tell him Who’s gonna tell him that there was no need There was no need for him to leave Even less for his return We asked him to support us when we had money to burn Who’s gonna tell him Who’s gonna tell him when he gets back Who’s gonna tell him Who’s gonna tell him we smoked all his crack He’s going to tan our hides, tonight When he finds out what we’ve done There’s no use in taking sides We’re better off if we run We better run We lied and we lied and we lied and we lied and we lied and we lied and we lied We lied and we lied and we lied and we lied and we lied and we lied and we tried We tried to blame it all on him or anyone else but us But we kept on trying We kept on lying We couldn’t stop We couldn’t stop Sometimes lies are the next best thing When the truth is not around The truth is always here, I fear Don’t ask him to expound He’s going to kill us all They’ll say we had it coming And they’d be right

I heard them argue near the shed I saw them hide the turpentine Under a kite made out of lead The color of a clementine I want to talk to the chef Not him, the real chef I want to talk to the manager Not you, the one with the necktie I couldn’t find a place to park Until I called the state police The dragged me out into the dark And charged us fifteen cents apiece I want to talk to The Pope The one I saw on TV I want to talk to Al Hirt Flight Of The Bumblebee The bark is tough beneath your hands As you stagger to your feet The cops presented their demands Which I did not expect to meet I was sick of the help I was tired of the night I guess you had to be there Which would have made me so much less lonely If you were there I wouldn’t have to leave And hang around the sidewalks I could just stay I want to talk to the man Who organized this whole thing I understand that his plan Would fit me like a king I called a ride to get back home But my teeth were made of glass Reflected in the dirt Was a message on my shirt Written in blood It said, “Come again”

Giant Insect 03:51
I drove out to the desert With a giant bug to bury The days grew longer every night The night’s weren’t necessary The van was made of chocolate A special kind that would not run You can park it in the sunshine Underneath a gatling gun Speaking of guns We need to kill All the giant insects They’re invading our towns It’s up to us We need to kill All the giant insects With our nervous breakdowns I unfolded my new shovel Excavating all six feet I kicked six legs inside a hole My mission seemed complete I called the supervisor Was he wearing his disguise? A plastic mask over his head I could hear it in his eyes Speaking of eyes We need to kill All the giant insects They’re degrading our lives It’s up to us We need to kill All the giant insects Serenading us with knives They came here so recently We had no time to prepare We were expecting someone else They caught us unaware The giant bugs were dumb and slow And not too bright at all But they took up some much damned room And inhaled aerosol The Pentagon sent me a check To help me pay for gas They asked me not to cash it Until it knocked me on my ass I take it as a point of pride To decimate those things So I drive around the country Setting fire to their wings Speaking of that We need to kill All the giant insects Before your mother gets home It’s up to us We need to kill All the giant insects And bring them to Jerome

Better you than me. Better you than me. As you can plainly see The bourgeoisie agree Better you than me We’re at our apogee I’m taller than a tree Thick as a manatee So it’s better you than me I heard of a man who bought a slot machine With the cash that he stole from God When it came time for him to cash in his chips He was broiled like a cod Better you than me Better you than me Here in The Baltic Sea Let’s join in this chanty Better you than me Sting like a bumblebee A bored retiree Banging on a tympani So it’s better you than me I once saw a man drive in reverse Downhill on Lombard Street in San Francisco He ended up disrupting the New Year’s Day Parade When they stuffed his breaks with Crisco Better you than me. Better you than me. We’re out of Genesee We gave it all to charity Better you than me In all actuality. Without hyperbole At The Silver Jubilee Bring a skeleton key And an honorary degree From a known university And hepatitis b Such idiosyncrasy Better you than me

Judee Sill 03:11
Well, I got up at five To go outside and stare at the lawn. The green looked gray and smooth While I drank Ceylon From a mug with a picture Of a talking sponge The only color I saw The mist made my face vibrate The creaking of the trees Avoiding an ancient saw I sat on a wooden table And felt the water in my clothes And watched the tea vibrate and shimmer I held it in my hands Looking down at a sea That I held in my hands My jacket looked like moss And my hair began to shine And I looked across the lawn And declared the rain to be mine The rain is mine

My favorite time to pass Is the time I pass with you Four thirty in the morning The black will turn to blue My favorite thing to say Is the thing you don’t expect All the wine is perfectly fine And the stories intersect Our love will ricochet Around the block tonight We spilled the cabernet Which was really just all right My favorite things My favorite times Aren’t worth the dimes They’re printed on My favorite clothes to wear Are the ones that aren’t in style I keep them in the office In a cabinet I marked “file” My favorite things to steal Are the things that overlap Some stories and some songs And somebody’s thinking cap Our love reverberates Across the grassy knoll No-one got their story straight Underneath the totem pole My favorite songs My favorite times Don’t even rhymes With anything Take it down Take it down Sub marine Sub marine Our love incinerates All within its view If you think they’re sick of me Just wait ’til they meet you Our love exaggerates Everything that went just right They all called it a one shot deal When the failure turned to flight

Maine 03:57
I drove up through Maine On the way to Montreal The signs drove me insane It was wild to hear that call I listened to Penderecki And Teddy Pendergrass Nothing really seemed to rhyme When I filled it up with gas I picked up a hitchhiker With a star stuck to her face No-one seemed to like her She took up too much space So we stopped in Kennebunkport And asked her to step out Instead she grabbed the steering wheel And we all began to shout Things like this only happen in Maine They never happen in Fargo, North Dakota There’s an angry woman with a voodoo doll Demanding that I let her drive the Toyota She put a curse on the lady in the back seat When she tried to steal the mojo from her hand The lady chirped like a parakeet And her voice resembled paper made from sand I jumped out of the car and ran inside The back door of the local hardware store They asked if I had given a friendly ride To a witch who’d arrived from Baltimore Things like this only happen in Maine They never happen in Saint Cloud, Minnesota There’s an angry woman who made it very plain That she’d be leaving with my old Toyota So I stayed in Maine and sought myself employment Two years later, I was elected mayor I built a statue of myself near the on-ramp And repaired the holes in the ozone layer One morning, I awoke to find a note Stapled to the dashboard of my neck The witch apologized for stealing my old car And asked if she could send me a check Things like this only happen in Maine Never in Vero Beach or Sarasota An angry woman struck out through the rain Delivering the keys to my old Toyota

The people at the other table seemed to be in love So I watched them all night I suppose I could have left if push declined to shove But sitting in the darkness felt right There were other tables, but no-one seemed to radiate All the joy that young lovers do So I ordered another lobster bisque and turned off my machine And imbibed another brew The waitress checked on me eleven times before the manager arrived To wonder what I was doing now. I told them that I liked to watch and that I always had I That I would watch all nature would allow. The Other Table was beautiful The Other Table was right If I had to follow them around I would watch all night The janitor turned off the lights and the parking lot was dead So I sat inside my car I waited for inspiration or an idea to descend Instead I went to the nearest bar I sat near the pool table and offered some advice To see what stuck to anyone People told me to get lost and vanish into darkness So I pulled out a gun The Other Table was beautiful The Other Table was right If I had to follow them around I would watch all night

Vans 05:31
Here they come Here come the kids To set the vans ablaze The vans start to burn Illuminate the street With Flames With Flames The bums gather ‘round The flaming vans They warm their hands Thanks, kids There they go There go the kids Off on their next secret mission At the liquor store Poke holes in the corks With needles and syringes The drunks at home Hallucinate and die Goodbye drunks Goodbye assholes You were never good for us The vans and the drunks Now, you’re gone Good for us

about

The utterly brilliant new record by The Glare expands upon their unique genre of Lonely Guy Rock, incorporating themes of apocalyptic endings and the dangers of picking up
hitchhikers. Recorded from March 2020 – October 2021, The New Pain crystalizes the feelings of isolation and detachment in an uncertain world. A must for all sexy people.
